We’ve got a D85PX-18 on softer ground and it does what it’s meant to do. That low ground pressure setup keeps it from sinking and tearing the place up. Track frame feels stout too, and the PLUS undercarriage design is legit if you’re tracking long hours. Less mucking around with undercarriage wear compared to older setups I’ve run.

Fuel burn is not bad for the power. Auto idle shutdown is simple but it helps when guys forget to back it off on breaks.

Comfort is decent. Joysticks are easy on the wrists, cab feels like Komatsu standard. I wouldn’t call it fancy, just workable for long shifts.

Been running the D85 on some rough ground jobs the past year. The transmission switch from auto to manual actually comes in handy. Manual mode helps when I hit harder earth or stumps. Telematics system is alright, but the alerts are too sensitive, sometimes I just ignore them. I like that I don’t have to climb all over the thing to service it, everything’s lined up pretty good. The high-res monitor is a lot fancier than what I’m used to, I do like having diagnostics right there. No major issues with reliability so far. Only real downside, PX model still builds up mud in wet conditions more than I hoped.

I’m on my third Komatsu D85 and I gotta say, they made the cab way better on these newer ones. Space and AC are a step up, less back pain after long days. The rear view monitor helps a lot when you’re working in tight spots, haven’t whacked anything yet. Engine pulls strong, not much to complain about power, even when dozing big loads. Had a bit of trouble with DEF sensors bugging out, but service cleared it up quick. Centralized lube is a real time saver. All in all, it’s a solid dozer, a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for with features.

Been using the D85EX-15 in landfill work and it's got good push for its size. Love the palm command controls, makes it more chill to handle, especially if you’re shifting gears a lot. The whole engine area is quieter than some older dozers I ran, which is a win. I did notice the fuel draw seemed better but not massively different-still, less times stopping for fills is always good. Not a fan of Komatsu’s monitor panel-takes getting used to. Really wish some parts were easier to get but nothing unusual. Maintenance is alright, easy to reach stuff for regular checks.

Been running the D85 for about 2 years, mostly for site prep and pushing fill. To be honest, it gets the job done. The cab is roomy enough, and I actually like the visibility from the seat. Hydraulics response is alright, though sometimes controls feel a bit heavy compared to what I drove before. Not a problem, but I noticed after a full shift my arms feel it. Maintenance isn’t bad if you stick to the interval, though not always the easiest to get at everything. Price is up there but you get what you pay for (I guess).
